&SubHeading=Instructions, terms used, and test-taking procedure

&Paragraph1Heading=Instructions

&Paragraph1=If the ‘Glossary.txt’ file is in the program folder, and the entries in it are translated, you can change the interface language of the exam section with a click on the ‘A~Z’ button.
After you enter your name and click the ‘Start’ button, the test begins and the Teacher’s notes (if any) will appear on the screen. You may be instructed to use additional content files, web pages or a 10_Q multimedia presentation during the test. To open a content file, locate it using the arrow buttons and click ‘File’. Proceed in a similar way to open a web page.
To start work on an exercise, click the respective large orange button. A small orange button shows that images or videos are associated with the task; you can view them by clicking the grey button under the ‘Illustrated exercise’ heading on the exercise page. Please exit Illustrated exercise view before navigating to another frame! When you are ready, click ‘Submit’, and you’ll see the correct answers and your results. To return to the main test page without doing the exercise, click ‘Back’.
Unless you are instructed to do the exercises in a particular order, you are free to choose which one to start with. The button of a completed exercise is disabled and you cannot redo it.
Finally, click ‘Score’ to open a page with your overall test results and save them on the computer. Having seen the results, click ‘Ready’ for one last important step: you may or may not be asked to rename the test results file. Do as appropriate on the frame which opens, and click ‘Done’ to clear the screen.

&Paragraph2Heading=Exercise types and terms used.

&Paragraph2=Depending on the exercise, ‘questions’ can be also items, statements, blanks, etc. ‘Options’ are the variants (2, 3, or more) to choose from. Not all types of exercises provide options.
The ‘Free Form test’ combines different exercise types and you will be prompted which method of entering answers to use for each question: 1) check-boxes, 2) T/F/N buttons, or 3) a text field.
An ‘Extended test’ includes writing and speaking sections; your oral and written responses will be saved on the computer and assessed later by your teacher.

&Paragraph3Heading=Navigation and interaction techniques.

&Paragraph3=Use the arrow buttons on the screen to move to the next or previous item, option, file, etc. Please check whether you can also use the left and right arrow keys on your keyboard to navigate between questions and use whichever method is easier for you.
Most types of questions expect a single-letter answer. Click inside the answer box (if the cursor is not located there already) and enter the character with your keyboard. For some questions, there are alternative methods which don’t require a keyboard, such as check-boxes or T/F/N buttons. Besides, some exercises allow you to step through the options with arrow buttons to select an answer and click ‘OK’.
A 10_Q slide show may be linked to a test as additional content; click ‘Presentation’ to open it. Use the Frames arrow buttons (or press the Up and Down arrow keys) to navigate back and forth. For quick access to Frame 10, for example, enter ‘9’ in the left Frames text box and click the right arrow button; or enter ‘11’ and click the left arrow button. If the right text box of the Unfold, Items, or Pages groups is yellow, you can use the arrow buttons of that group to step through the unfold sequence, bulleted list, or paginated text, respectively. Alternatively, press the Left and Right arrow keys, the Left and Right Square Bracket keys, or the Page Up and Down keys. Only the first row of a table is initially displayed; you need to click the ‘>>’ button or press ‘T’ to see the other rows, one at a time. Click ‘Table’ to disable the feature; the whole table will be shown. Likewise, click the yellow text box of the Items group to make the whole bulleted list appear on the screen.
Other operations to perform either with the mouse or the keyboard: open an exercise with the ‘Ex’ button or the ‘X’ key, access a website the ‘W’ button or the ‘W’ key, start an Automatic slide show with the ‘A’ button or the ‘A’ key, hide the control panel with the green right arrow button or the ‘P’ key.
Round yellow indicators next to the audio and video player sections show the presence of media content. For audio clips, use the ‘Play’, ‘Pause’, and ‘Stop’ buttons, and the volume slider. For videos, choose a small or large screen with the respective button and use the player controls to start and stop the clip.
The 15 small buttons in the bottom left corner are used to change the frame background. Ask your teacher how to magnify objects, draw lines and curves with the mouse, and use the Timer and Concordancer tools!
Please be patient; wait for an image or a pdf document to open, and a transition effect to complete before you click a button or press a key!
